OREGON COAST

HELLO EVERYONE...As we leave our friends Richard and Kathy after spending a week with them at their home in Portland we reflect on what  a large but neat town with a lot going for it. It's a very young city with the average age just 35 with people walking, jogging and biking everywhere.
We also want to say thanks to everyone at the Knight Cancer Institute a part of the massive Oregon Health and Science University group in Portland.  Now another place Tony can receive his monthly IVIG treatment.

We traveled a little NW along the Columbia River to the most northern town in Oregon, Astoria, right on US 101. We will have to wait a couple more years when we come back this way to go across this bridge into Washington.

.....And Sandy was happy about that lol!!!

Gas fill up time is always exciting for us...yea right...but Oregon is 1 of 2 states that puts your gas in for you...it's the law. What's the other state???

We then started south along the Oregon Coast with our first stop in Seaside which just happens to be the official end to the Lewis And Clark Trail.

We then traveled to Newport and stayed at the Elks #2105 with a seaport area that was a real treat.

We saw signs all along the coast that promoted this place....and we were not disappointed and the waterfront community was very nice.

You can Crab right of the dock!

We then HAD to travel a little east to "Toledo"...that's right Toledo Oregon. Staying at the Elks # 1664 and toured the small town with interesting history of logging and railroading.

Check out the color scheme for there High School 50 years ago !!!

Everyone from the Historical Center to the Railroad Museum to the Post Office was very helpful and informative about how Toledo Oregon came to be some 109 years ago. In 1866 John Graham, his son Joseph (from Toledo OH) and William Mackey claimed land made available by the Homestead Act. It was called "Graham's Landing" until a post office was established two years later. Joseph Graham named the post office for Toledo Ohio because he was homesick.

We then continued along the coast admiring the beautiful ocean beaches and rugged shore line...truly a great "ROAD TRIP" that we will do again in two years but then, we will be heading north and in the spring.

This little spot caught our eye...I don't know why...but it was very crowded and the one next door was empty.

One more stop before we enter California...and maybe we will even get to play golf for the first time on this trip.
