LAKE TAHOE

Our next stop is a place we have never visited during the warm months. Last time we were here it was to ski on New Years week ...1995...Lake Tahoe!
From our first view as we came around the mountain to some of the views as we made our way around the lake with elevation changes of more than 2,000 ft

With sometimes white knuckle driving but always beautiful scenery especially with the fall color change.

We found a nice campsite amongst the trees (some very close) and with a view of the lake.

This campground was part of a large complex of cottages, boat and snowmobile rentals, a restaurant, and a sightseeing Sternwheeler called the M.S. Dixie II. So we decided to take a cruise to Emerald Bay, a part of the lake with beautiful blue green water and reflections of underwater rock formations.

This is the only island on this huge lake at 6229 ft. in elevation. It's 22 miles long, 12 miles wide, a shoreline of 71 miles (42 in California and 29 in Nevada) with 122,160,280 acre ft. of water. Maximum depth 1645 ft. with the average depth of 989 ft. Surface water temperatures range from 68 to 41 and at 200 ft. range from 47 to 41 so it's a very large "BEAUTIFUL" and cool lake.

Average annual rainfall 8.3" snowfall 216" or 18 ft. so yes the skiing, as we remember it was great and this look a the Heavenly Valley Ski Area from the boat was a reminder of how big it was.

All the views of the shoreline were spectator and suggest getting out on the lake if you ever visit Lake Tahoe.

Our next Port of Call...so to speak will be Las Vegas and Laughlin Nevada by the way of a side trip back into California and through Death Valley.
