SOUTHERN CAL AGAIN

We left Surprise AZ on March 7th with the goal this time to spend at least two weeks in the San Diego area.

Our first night was in Brenda...at Brenda's RV park that we heard about from another traveling RVer from Victoria, British Columbia. A lot of the places we stay at were recommended by other RVers travailing like we do. You won't find this place on the map "on 60 just north of 10" close to Quartzite AZ. The highlight was a very good burger at Stevie's, a little portable diner that looks like it's been there for ten years.

We then headed north to Parker AZ with the plan to play golf on a course we heard about, the only problem was a lot of people have been talking about Emerald Canyon Golf Club for quite a while...so there were no t-times available for five days.

All was not lost though because just down from the golf course was Buckhorn State Park ...right on the Colorado River, a great spot that we will stay at again....hopefully when we have a t-time.

We then drove into California with our next destination being a small...but very nice RV park nestled in between the Santa Rosa Mts. and the Vallecito Mts. west of the Salton Sea.

On the way our GPS took us on a very unexpected side trip/short cut off hwy10 to the town of Mecca saving us some time and treating us to a beautiful canyon drive. This was such a remote road that we only saw a few cars ...until we came across a film crew making a movie. A little further down the road was the staging area for the production crew...Look for a 50's black & white squad car running through the desert in a movie next year.

We pulled into the Springs of Borrego RV & Golf Resort after driving through miles of desert to find an oasis waiting for us.

This was not just a very nice RV park but it had one of the best 9 hole golf courses we have "ever" played, not just an executive par 3 but a nice layout with 2-par 5's, 2-par 3's & 5 par 4's. We could only stay 3 nights and play 2...9's this time...but we will return sometime in the not to distant futcher.

These steel sculptures created by artist Ricardo Breceda are located roadside all around Borrego Springs. Just another unexpected treat in the middle of the desert.

Our path to the coast was over two mountains with numerous switchbacks and elevations over 4,300 ft. This took us nearly 4 hours to go only 95 miles to Carlsbad State Park overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
