FIRST MONTH IN FLORIDA

This is our home for another 4 months as we put our first 30 days behind
us...and its been quite a start as campground hosts.

We have a nice large spot close to the front of the park so we can see
people come in and offer them assistance...We are used to traveling
all over the place and meeting people and now we are staying in one place
and meeting people from all over.

This is a small park with full hook-ups including cable tv
and the property runs right into the Gulf.

Lots wild life and the beach fishing is pretty good.

Like we said it's been an interesting start for us...

First we had to deal with Hurricane Hermine which went north
of us but dumped enough rain for us to make the call to evacuate to
higher ground at the Wal-Mart for one night.

....and this was Aug 31st a day before our official start!!!

The surf was intense during the storm but we didn't get much wind.

The next thing we had to deal with and we are still dealing with
is Red Tide. In Florida, red tide is caused by a naturally occurring
microscopic alga (a plant-like microorganism)...The organism
produces a toxin that can affect the central nervous systems in
fish, birds, mammals and other animals. Also people with respiratory
problems should also stay away from the beach so Tony is doing that.

Red tide blooms can last days, weeks or months and can also change
daily due to wind conditions and water currents. We have been dealing
with it for the last two weeks and it seems to be clearing out a little.

This can spoil a trip to the beach...or a stay at a campground like this
but it's just part of nature like the hurricanes.

We hope that the beach gets back to normal soon so Tony can get back
to his turtle watch, which takes him up and down the beach on his morning
bike ride watching 45 nests.

We hope we have more to talk about as far as turtles in our next post,
like getting to see them hatch in the middle of night
and make there way to the ocean.

Of course good food is always part of our enjoyment while traveling and
we were treated to these good sized avocados from a very nice visiting
camper from Miami and Sandy learned to make guacamole.

Which we put on everything...

Another plus is doing a little Bar-B Q with Tony's son Ty and the Granddaughters....who live just a short drive away.

Or at the great restaurant right across the street from the campground!!!
A favorite place for Sunday Brunch...

Of course one of Tony's favorite places is Captain Curt's where the local
Ohio State alumni and fans meet to cheer on the Buckeyes every Saturday.

They go all out with a DJ playing Buckeye fight songs, raffles, drawings and
sing a long's while enjoying some great sea food and drink.

As a side note she past away this week at the age of 92...

Of course we have great sunsets
