MOVING TOWARD THE COAST

As we left our last campsite we got a better look at the massive Salton Sea 235 ft. below sea level. This is the largest lake in California at 35 miles long, most at only 15 ft. in deph with deepest point at 51 ft. The total volume is about 7.5 million acre-feet....massive...and salt water to the amount of 44 parts per thousand (ppt) compared to 280 for the Utah's Great Salt Lake.

....so much for the history lessen...but this was such a site when you come upon it in the middle of the desert....it's like looking at a mirage

Back to the more basic duties of a normal day...cooking dinner on our new...to us... Weber Grill "thanks to Jim & Chris Blaine" As you can see we had to hide behind Lexi out out of the wind to get the job done...which is fairly common while camping.

We stop along the way to buy food and never know what kind of place "from the outside" that you are going into because the names are so different like today we stoped at Stater Bros. in Riverside...Put it this way...Tony wanted to stay out and keep an eye on Lexi...but he didn't...and we were pleasantly surprised at the selection and good price.

Just close your eyes....and you think you're in Mexico

This is a little state park in Riverside where we are spending the night...it's a little different in CA because you need to show your registration & prof of insurance along with drivers license to book a site.

Another nice surprise today was that this place is a member of Passport America half/price camping club...so only $10 ...a real deal in CA

But as we get closer to the coast that will change

Tomorrow we are looking at park near Corona which has a 36 hole golf course...believe it or not if we golf it will be our first round this trip....

Then we will try to find a spot on the coast .... around Huntington Beach....for a couple days...no half/price camping there...
