As we left our last campsite we got a better look at the massive Salton Sea 235 ft. below sea level.
This is the largest lake in California at 35 miles long, most at only 15 ft. in deph with deepest point at 51 ft. The total volume is about 7.5 million acre-feet....massive...and salt water to the amount of 44 parts per thousand (ppt) compared to 280 for the Utah's Great Salt Lake.
....so much for the history lessen...but this was such a site when you come upon it in the middle of the desert....it's like looking at a mirage
We stop along the way to buy food and never know what kind of place "from the outside" that you are going into because the names are so different like today we stoped at Stater Bros. in Riverside...Put it this way...Tony wanted to stay out and keep an eye on Lexi...but he didn't...and we were pleasantly surprised at the selection and good price.
Just close your eyes....and you think you're in Mexico
