TEXAS 2 STEP

Or maybe it's more like half step...slowing down a little...after being in Texas for 2 weeks:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

As we left Louisiana with memories of GREAT FOOD, so-so roads and a wide variety of interesting times and good camp grounds...with our last stop defiantly on the list for any return trip: The Coushatta Casino RV Resort with Koasati Pines Golf Course in Kinder. $17.00 a night stay...$5.50 senior buffet...$25.00 golf and a free shuttle to take us to everything.

Our first stop in Texas was the Beaumont Elks Lodge #311. A good over night stay but we were in a hurry to get back to the Gulf Cost and we did so on Galveston Island for a couple days, then a side trip to visit old and new friends in the Houston area...staying at the nicest Elks Lodge we have been to: Houston #151, where some Elks stay for months...it's that nice, in a town with lots to do.

That's when our plans changed...like our Garmin 750 navigator system saying... "RECALCULATING...RECALCULATING" ...Changing planing to go back to the Gulf...to places like Padre Island National Seashore and Mustang Island. But...when we called the State Park on Mustang Island for reservations they told us that there was a "RED TIDE ALERT"... not knowing what this was...We Googled it...and decided to head for the hills...The Hill Country (that is) a little early. Red Tide is a respiratory risk...to make a long explanation short...maybe next time we are down here.

So after staying at Bay City RV Park (a little miss leading name) 30 miles from the cost...but with a very nice Gary Player designed golf course ...all on public land with $15 stay & $25 golf...we turned north to the San Antonio / Austin area and Hill Country for a three week stay at a nice variety of accommodations.
